SISTERS, OR — Voters in Sisters will be asked to support a $14.5 million school bond this November. Sisters School Board member Don Hedrick told KBNW News the funds would be used for a host of maintenance work around the district, including:
- Improving air flow and temperature at Sisters High School
- Removing dips and cracks in the high school track
- Replacing the roof at Sisters High School
- Repairing cracking and splitting parking lots
- Installing a new district phone system
- Providing a laptop for each student in the district
“It’s very important for the kids because it improves safety and will improve education. And not just the kids, but the staff also,” Hedrick said. “It’s very important to keep our schools up to date and well maintained and keep the reputation that we’ve had over the years.”
Hedrick added the 15-year bond would cost a $235,000 property owner $149 in taxes a year. He said moving forward they will create a PAC to promote the bond and address any questions voters might have.
Hedrick says the last time the school district put a significant amount of money into maintenance work was 2007.
