BEND, OR — In the past week, Bend Police have arrested two men after several stolen bicycles were discovered.
On Thursday, officers searched a Fairway Dr. home and found several high-valued bikes believed to be stolen. Officers are currently trying to link the stolen bicycles with the respective victims. No charges have been filed, but Kelly Patrick Crawford, 43, Bend was arrested for two unrelated counts.
On Saturday, officers searched a Cheyenne Rd. apartment, and again found several high-priced, stolen bicycles. Jeremiah Michael Towery, 42, was arrested, and charged with 1st Degree Theft.
Bend PD Lt. Nick Parker told KBNW News the department has seen an increase in the number of bicycle thefts. In the first seven months of the year, over 180 bicycles have been reported stolen. Lt. Parker said it’s important owners are vigilant and secure their bike with a quality lock in a good location.
“Part of that is we have a lot of bikes in the Bend area, and unfortunately people leave them leaning against a bike rack, or in front of a business or outside of their house, and unfortunately they are taken once in a while.”
The investigation in both cases is ongoing.
