Giants RB David Wilson to See Neck Specialist

Wesley Hitt/Getty Images(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) —  New York Giants running back David Wilson’s bounce-back season is off to a rough start.

Wilson left Tuesday’s training camp practice with a neck injury and underwent a battery of tests.  He is expected to miss at least a week.

“We were all praying that it would not be an issue, that he would be able to come back and go to work,” Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Tuesday. “But we’ll see.”

Instead of playing in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, Wilson will stay in New York and be examined by Dr. Frank Cammisa at the Hospital for Special Surgery.  Cammisa is the same specialist who performed season-ending spinal fusion surgery on Wilson after Week 5 to correct a disk problem in his neck in 2013.

The Giants drafted Wilson in the first-round of the 2012 NFL draft.  He was cleared for full contact back on July 21 and was practicing normally with the team before the injury occurred.
