Man Seriously Injured After Train Hit Pickup

082714.usfs5821.rr.1WESTFIR, OR — Oregon State Police said the driver of a pickup truck was seriously injured when his vehicle was hit by a westbound Union Pacific Railroad train at a crossing near Westfir.  Oakridge fire crews were able to pull him from the pickup truck Wednesday morning.  From there, the unidentified man was flown to a Springfield hospital.

Investigators said the train’s operator braked after seeing the pickup stopped on the tracks but couldn’t stop completely.
