Deschutes County Board Welcomes $500K ACA Grant Toward Sisters Clinic

BEND, OR — The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners approved the reception of a half a million dollars in federal grant funds for the Sisters school-based Health Clinic.

“We have precedence there in Redmond and in La Pine, and we’ve done it in Bend,” says commissioner Tony DeBone. “So this was a kind of a kind of a unique situation to be able to qualify for a grant that helped us put one in Sisters.”

The grant came from the Health Resources and and Services Administration, on the condition that the building remain a health clinic regardless of whether it comes under the jurisdiction of another agency.

“They want the covenant to stay with it even if it ever got transferred from Deschutes County- the owner currently- to maybe a school district, or anybody else. It would be public purpose, so that’s what we did today,” Debone says.

The building already exists close to the Sisters High School. It was donated to the County by a private owner.

The grant was originally provided to the County in 2011 as part of the Affordable Care Act.
