Wyden Speaks Of Local, National Efforts At COCC

Wyden At COCC

US Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) fields questions during Thursday’s appearance at Central Oregon Community College.

BEND, OR — Senator Ron Wyden spoke to Central Oregon citizens Thursday at Central Oregon Community College to outline progress he had made for the region, and to field questions from his constituents.

The senator outlined bipartisan efforts he and other congressman were making to help narrow the wealth gap. He nicknamed it after where the lower- and upper-class tends to shop.

“If you look at the economy, we’ve got- I call it a Dollar Tree/Neiman Marcus economy,” Wyden said.

He went on to recall the FDA’s April announcement to rewrite its plan to regulate spent grain from local breweries. Speculators feared that additional regulation would unnecessarily increase production costs.

“I may not know everything about beer, but I know when a federal agency has had one too many,” the senator joked.

During the Q and A session a citizen asked what Wyden, who is also chair of the Senate Finance Committee, what the senator planned to do about the recent IRS abuses. Wyden assured the crowd that a resolution was predicted early in the fall, once the senate had reconvened after Labor Day.
