BEND, OR — April 15th may be months away, but AARP is already planning for tax season. For the last 46 years, AARP has offered free tax assistance and preparation for low- to moderate-income earners. Shelley Buckingham told KBNW News you don’t need to be a member to receive help.
“We will have hundreds of sites around Oregon. Individuals can make an appointment and come in with their tax, now these are the simple taxes, and have their taxes done for free.”
Buckingham added they will train anyone willing to volunteer.
“Most of the folks have some kind of math background, either they’ve been accountants and the are retired, or they are students in school. So, we are looking for individuals all over the state.”
To learn more about the program or to volunteer, visit AARP’s Website or call (888) AARP Now (888-227-7669).
Taxpayers who used AARP received $1.3 billion in income tax refunds and more than $257 million in Earned Income Tax Credits.
