Federal EPA Grants Available To Assess Former Industrial Properties

BEND, OR — Deschutes County invites all property owners with questions about their property’s environmental condition to attend an information session tonight.

A grant from the Environmental Protection Agency has been made available to assess former industrial properties for redevelopment and improvement.

“These are sites that have a prior history of being used for industrial purposes. Maybe they were using petroleum, like an old gas station or a wrecking yard,” says Deschutes County Principal Planner Peter Gutowsky.

Over $260,000 has been made available for environmental site assessments to all eligible properties within Deschutes County.

“We’ll have our consultants from Apex Companies in attendance,” says Gutowsky. “Staff will be there as well to again provide at least a context of how these environmental site assessments are applied.”

Tonight’s meeting takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Deschutes Services Center on NW Wall St.

A week from today, a similar meeting will take place at Redmond City Hall.
