I-84 Westbound Closed After Truck Catches Fire

PENDLETON, OR — I-84 westbound was shut down just east of Pendleton on Sunday afternoon as firefighters worked to extinguish a truck and trailer fire.

A commercial truck was westbound on Interstate 84 when the driver noticed the brakes smoking and catching fire.

The driver and passenger were unable to put out the fire.

According to a witness, the vehicles became fully engulfed and diesel tanks exploded.

The fire caused extensive damage. ODOT was on scene to coordinate vehicle removal which may take place this (Monday) morning.
