BOARDMAN, Ore. — I-84 was closed for several hours Monday following a multi-vehicle collision near Boardman that fatally injured an 80-year old Washington man.
On Monday morning, an oversized load was being escorted with support vehicles on I-84 westbound. A rolling slow-down kept traffic from moving past the group of vehicles.
After slowing, a Ford Explorer was struck from behind by a Ford Mustang. That crash left the Mustang disabled and stopped in the right lane.
After the driver got out of the Mustang to help 80-year old Melvin Mitchell get out, three commercial trucks came up on them and weren’t able to stop.
One truck passed on the right shoulder, the second passed to the left. The third truck struck the Mustang and fatally injured the elderly male.
The driver, 27 year old Mitchell Davis, received minor injuries.
The westbound lanes were reopened Monday afternoon.
