SALEM, Ore. — This week is National Save for Retirement Week, and State Treasurer Ted Wheeler says that action must be taken, both by future retirees and state lawmakers.
Wheeler says that more than half of Oregon workers have less than $25,000 in retirement savings and more than a quarter have saved less than $1,000.
The average retirement savings of Oregonians aged 45 to 65 is less than $5,000.
About half of private-sector employees in Oregon do not have access to an employer-sponsored retirement plans.
