Study ‘Beyonce Feminism’ and ‘Rihanna Womanism’ at University of Texas

Larry Busacca/Getty Images(AUSTIN, Texas) — Beyonce’s band of feminism has been a source of debate recently, and now you can study how she and Rihanna are impacting the feminist movement, by taking a new course at the University of Texas at Austin.

The African & African Diaspora Studies department just announced the “Beyonce Feminism, Rihanna Womanism” course for the spring 2015 semester. The goal is to explore their careers to understand the role of feminism in pop culture.

According to the course description, “Students will be studying how the lyrics, music videos, and actions of these women express various aspects of black feminism such as violence, economic opportunity, sexuality, standards of beauty, and creative self-expression.”

The class will not compare Beyonce and Rihanna, nor is there word on whether Queen Bey or RiRi will make a guest appearance.

As previously reported, Beyonce has also been studied by the Ivy League: the Harvard Business School recently released a report on the marketing strategy behind the surprise release of her most recent, self-titled CD.
