Roseburg, Ore. -Forest Service officials would like to remind the public to be cautious while driving on Forest Service roads. Winter weather conditions can cause problems not yet identified on Forest Service roads. Extra caution is required when driving on roads located in the Umpqua National Forest. It is possible to encounter fallen trees and debris posing hazards at any time.

Forest Service officials identified damage on Road 28 caused by last weekend’s heavy rains. A slide caused damage near milepost 25 on a segment of Road 28. The slide occurred just west of Skillet Creek Campground on the Tiller Ranger District. Visitors wanting to access Skillet Creek Campground or any location east of the slide should contact the Tiller Ranger District at (541) 825-3100 for alternate routes.

Visitors to the Umpqua National Forest should be prepared for adverse weather and winter road conditions. Plan on packing a winter survival kit containing traction devices, a shovel, saw or ax, flares, flashlight, food and water, and matches in your vehicle.
