Bend Police Ask For Public’s Help In Diesel Spill

Bend, Ore. – On December 23rd at about 1124 hours, Bend Police Department was called to assist the Bend Fire Department and BNSF with a diesel spill along the railroad tracks near Revere Avenue.

Evidence at the scene suggested an object was placed on the track to cause the damage. The train was southbound when the damage occurred. The locomotive sustained damage to the bottom of the fuel tank causing approximately 2000-2500 gallons of diesel to leak out.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact dispatch at 541-693-6911. More specifically, anyone that observed any suspicious activity at, or before, the time of this incident is asked to report the activity.

Greenwood Avenue at the Railroad underpass remains closed while crews continue to clean up the area. Revere Avenue and Olney Avenue were closed at the railroad tracks for several hours, but have been opened back up.
