Railroad Disaster Readiness Is The Topic Of Bend Meeting

Bend, Ore. – In light of the recent BNSF Diesel Spill the League of Women Voters January meeting is a timely topic: “RAILROAD DISASTER – IS DESCHUTES COUNTY READY?”

Background: On Tuesday, 1000’s of drivers were impacted by a Diesel spill from a train that was passing through downtown Bend. Several major streets were closed and others were impacted as emergency crews and environmental experts worked to clean up the spill. The FBI is now also involved in the case that could be the result of sabotage. Railway officials say an object was placed near the tracks and it tore through part of the locomotive, causing 2000 gallons to spill.

The speakers who can answer the emergency prep question will be:
