100 Plus Women Who Care Donate To Disability Support Network

Bend, Ore. – At noon on Friday, January 30th, 100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregon presented a check for $25,300 to the Central Oregon Disability Support Network.

“This amazing and unexpected donation from 100+ Women Who Care will allow us to turn our dream into a reality,” says Stephanie Utzman, COCSN Program Director.

Recently Blue Fish Dental donated the use of a vacant building in Redmond. Utzman says, “With this money we will be able to perform the zone change and building improvements required to occupy the building. Once open, we estimate being able to serve up to 2000 children and their families residing in Redmond and surrounding communities, including Warm Springs, Culver, Prineville, Sisters, Madras and John Day. Thank you so much for your support!”

The Central Oregon Disability Support Network, in collaboration with six other community organizations, has a dream of creating a center where families of children experiencing a disability can access all the supports and services their child and family needs.
Monday, January 5th, nearly 200 women from all around Central Oregon gathered at the St. Charles Medical Center each poised to write a $100 check to a worthy charity. Fifty members nominated charities. Out of those, three were selected at random and together 100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregon elected to give their joint donation to The Central Oregon Disability Support Network.

This is the second donation by the Central Oregon chapter since its first meeting in September 2013. Then the group voted to donate their money to the Bethlehem Inn in Bend.

Based on the 100 Women Who Care model, one hundred women come together for one hour to raise $10,000 or more for a worthy cause. Membership to the Central Oregon chapter has grown to more than 250, with more women on a waiting list. After only two meetings the Central Oregon chapter is one of the largest in the country.

Money raised by 100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregon stays local. To be eligible a non-profit must serve Deschutes, Crook or Jefferson counties.

100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregon meet four times a year. They meet next on May 12 at the High Desert Museum. Registration begins at 5:30, the meeting begins at 6:30 and ends promptly at 7:30.
