Center for Women’s Health opening in Bend May 1

Bend, Ore. — St. Charles Health System is opening a Center for Women’s Health in Bend that will offer a full spectrum of obstetric and gynecological services.

The new clinic, which opens May 1, will provide coordinated care for women based on the perinatal home concept. Patients seen at the clinic will have access to obstetric, gynecological and behavioral health care, as well as health education.

“We have a large, active St. Charles Center for Women’s Health in Redmond and we wanted to expand our concept and service into Bend, where there is a real community need,” said Dr. Barbara Newman, medical director of the center. “We’re excited about the perinatal home concept, which we feel better meets women’s complete health care needs.”

The new clinic will be staffed by four doctors, including Dr. John Murphy, a long-time Bend OB-GYN who was previously in private practice for 15 years.

“Dr. Murphy is a very skilled clinician and surgeon,” Newman said. “His experience and deep knowledge of the community are a welcomed addition to the St. Charles team of providers.”

Murphy and the other OB-GYNs, who are relocating to Bend and will start practicing later this summer, will also be joined by a nurse practitioner and two nurse midwives.

The St. Charles Center for Women’s Health, which will be temporarily located at 2600 NE Neff Road, will begin scheduling appointments in April.
