Commercial Structure Fire At Bend Welding Shop

Bend, Ore.- Bend Fire units responded to a reported fire alarm activation at 1310 SE Armour Rd. Upon arrival, a fire in a welding shop was found, and the incident was upgraded to a full commercial structure fire response. The fire was confined to a single tenant, a welding shop located in Suites 13 & 14 of the building. There was no damage to adjoining tenants, although utilities were shut off to the entire building during suppression operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

The damage to this business would have been far more severe were it not for the fact that the building is equipped with a full fire sprinkler system. The sprinkler system discharged and held the fire in check until fire crews arrived and completed extinguishment of the fire. When the sprinkler head activated, it also triggered a fire alarm activation that led to crews being quickly dispatched to the incident. This business is located in an industrial park, and at that time of night, it may have been a considerable amount of time before the fire was discovered. Without a doubt, working fire sprinkler systems and fire alarm systems saved this business.
