Bend, Ore. – TCF (The Center Foundation) is pleased to announce Tia Hatton as the March 2015 High Desert Hero. Tia is a senior at Mountain View High School where she holds a 4.19 weighted GPA. Academically, Tia is currently ranked first among her class of 301 students, while taking a full schedule of Advanced Placement and college dual credit courses. Tia is a three sport varsity athlete, participating in Cross Country, Nordic Skiing, and Track and Field. She was selected by her coaches and teammates to be captain of the cross country and Nordic ski teams. Along with athletics, Tia is President of the Green Club and a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
Tia participates in many volunteer activities including; peer tutoring, preparing meals at Family Kitchen, mentoring students with My Future My Choice, assembling and distributing Christmas baskets to families in need, assisting at Becca’s Closet, and participating in local missions with Serve C.O.
According to Kate Hunter, Mountain View school counselor, “Tia’s humble nature, compassion and dedication towards others radiates through her consistent volunteering efforts.” Hunter goes on to say, “As Tia moves towards her post secondary goals of attending a top university…and double majoring in International Relations and Political Science, I have no doubt that Tia will achieve any and all goals she sets for herself and her future.” Please help us in celebrating this outstanding Central Oregon student.
Each month TCF selects an outstanding high school senior who maintain a 3.5 or higher unweighted GPA, displays leadership in school activities, and participates in the community. High Desert Heroes receive a $250 scholarship, and will be highlighted on myWindow and on Horizon Broadcasting Group radio stations. High Desert Heroes are eligible to compete for the prestigious William K Worrell Scholarship of $5,000. All High Desert Heroes will be acknowledged at the May 6, 2015, Scholarship Awards Dinner.
TCF exists to benefit the health, wellness, and education of Central Oregon youth. In addition to its scholarship program, TCF is supported by The Center and Therapeutic Associates to place certified athletic trainers Bend/LaPine and Sisters high schools.
