Madras, Ore. – It’s a groundbreaking ceremony today in Madras on a 5 million dollar project that hopes to improve safety.
Peter Murphy with the Oregon Department of Transportation says the funds come through several sources and are routing through ODOT.
“People have been working on this for quite awhile.up in Madras because you have a situation on Hwy 97 coming from the South as you get into town you have a safety issue up there – for instance – cross traffic can’t even get across.”
He also tells KBNW news:
“Basically what we’ll be doing is re-routing that southern Y entry into Madras, we’ll be pushing the Y a little bit further into the East. But the good news on that is that it is not really going to affect motorists, until we get to the final stage, because the work is done off the highway.”
The project should be done by October of this year –
Murphy says the weather should help and so it may be done sooner. The project will also bring in some new jobs to the area.
