UPDATE FROM BACHELOR: Chair Lift Fall Cause

Bend, Ore.- An investigation revealed that the involved chair suffered a component failure which caused the grip to malfunction as it exited the upper terminal.

All chair grips were inspected and no other abnormalities were discovered.

Background: Around 1:15 p.m. yesterday, an empty chair on the Sunrise Express lift detached from the lift cable and fell to the snow. The chair had exited the upper terminal and was traveling downhill without any passengers. There were no guest or employee injuries resulting from the incident.

Sunrise lift was immediately closed for the remainder of the day.

Mt. Bachelor personnel also inspected the Sunrise lift’s terminal components and the company is reviewing operating procedures with lift operations and maintenance staff.
