Bend Business Owner Dies While Taking Photos In Linn County

Albany, Ore. — Authorities say a 52-year-old Bend man fell to his death while taking photos near Tamolitch Falls in Linn County.

The Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon says Joel Martin fell about 45 feet and struck his head in the fall.

According to Martin’s website, he started working construction, in framing, in 1984. Over the years he supervised the construction of multi-million dollar homes, subdivision production homes, and more.

A paramedic who witnessed Sunday’s fall tried to save Martin’s life along with an emergency room nurse who came upon the scene.

The undersheriff says the fall occurred about three miles by trail from the Eugene Water and Electric Board power station and that the remote location hampered notification and rescue efforts.

Martin’s body was taken to Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
