Eugene, Ore. – Sid Leiken, Lane County Commissioner has amended his Political Action Committee from friends of Sid Leiken to Sid Leiken for Governor.

Leiken is exploring a race for governor since there will be a special election for governor in 2016 due the resignation of former Governor John Kitzhaber. Kitzhaber was replaced based on state constitutional protocol by Secretary of State Kate Brown, democrat from Portland.

The Democratic Party and some of its key leaders have been embroiled in scandal for months centering on the former governor’s relationship with former first lady, Cylvia Hayes—who is under extensive investigation by the FBI and the IRS.

“Oregon needs a fresh start and new leadership,” said Leiken. “I have been encouraged by many people to seek this nomination and work to help reshape and rebuild Oregon’s precious image and reputation and at the same time get our economy back on track and reshape how we fund education in our great state”, Leiken said. “This change in my PAC filing is a step in the process to say we are seriously looking at seeking the Republican nomination in May of 2016 and will spend the next several weeks going around the state to meet Oregonians where they live, and talk about their vision for Oregon’s future”, Leiken said. “We have had over thirty years of Executive control by one party and unfortunately, during that time our state has led the nation in unemployment, homelessness and hunger, meaning the current and past policies aren’t working.

In Springfield, we were able to transform the community by attracting clean industry with family wage jobs. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines placed their call center in Gateway, Peace Health relocated to the center of our community and Symantec brought 1,400 new jobs and frankly, none of this would have happened had we not been aggressive about seeking these opportunities out and paving the way for economic revitalization. That is the kind of leadership I will take to the governor’s office.”

Leiken is in his second term as Lane County Commissioner and he served for 10 years prior as Springfield’s Mayor where he is credited with leading the charge to bring thousands of new jobs to Springfield as the timber economy weakened and jobs were being lost. Sid and his wife Debbie have two sons, Zach and Gabe ages 22 and 20.
