Oregon Connections Academy Enrolling for the 2015-16 School Year

Scio, Ore. With the evolution of technology and additional school choices, more and more families are turning to virtual public schools like Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA) for their children’s education. According to the national “Keeping Pace with K-12 Digital Learning” report, ¹ there are now more than 315,000 students in 30 states attending full-time virtual schools.

At Oregon Connections Academy, the largest tuition-free online public charter school in the state with students in grades K-12, enrollment recently topped 4,000 students statewide. “We started out with 650 students 10 years ago, so to me, this growth really demonstrates the need for online education in Oregon,” said Candy Farthing, Oregon Connections Academy Executive Director.

Enrollment for Oregon Connections Academy’s 2015-16 school year is underway, and several free parent information sessions are being held across the state to fulfill the growing number of requests for information from families about the online school.

Parents and students interested in exploring tuition-free online public school for their children can attend an information session hosted by Oregon Connections Academy on Thursday May 7th, at 6:30 pm at the Comfort Suites Redmond Airport, 2243 SW Yew Avenue in Redmond.

At the information session, parents and students have an opportunity to learn about the school’s curriculum, and thoroughly explore the program. They can also interact with school representatives and parents. Parent-to-Parent meetings are also available for families interested in speaking with currently enrolled families in a more casual setting.

According to the school’s 2014 Parent Satisfaction Survey, families’ most important reasons for considering ORCA included: wanting a change from their current school setting; needing or wanting a flexible schedule, and expressing a desire for a safe learning environment.

For a complete list of in-person and online information sessions, as well as parent meetings, visit www.OregonConnectionsAcademy.com/events or call (800) 382-6010. Enrollment information is also available on Oregon Connections Academy’s website.
