Police Say Drugs Factored Into Salem Injury Crash

Salem, Ore. – According to Sergeant Mark Davie, yesterday at 3:44 pm a two vehicle serious injury crash occurred on HWY 99E at Milepost 36 near Salem.

A white 2002 Toyota Echo, driven by 47 year oldLEO PROBERT of Conconully Washington, was northbound on Hwy 99E when it crossed the center line and collided with a blue 1993 Honda Civic that was traveling southbound. The Honda was driven by 43 year old MANUEL GARIBAY CERVANTES of Salem.

Both occupants were taken to Salem Hospital where they were both treated for their injuries and released.

The highway remained closed for approximately 2 hours while Troopers investigated the crash and to allow for the removal of the vehicles.

The investigation is being conducted by Oregon State Troopers out of the Salem Area Command. An OSP crash reconstruction team responded and is assisting with the investigation.

Initial results indicate that alcohol and controlled substances may have been a contributing factor. Troopers were assisted by the Gervais Police Department, Woodburn Fire Department, and ODOT.
