Washington, DC – Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley is not happy with the Republican – backed budget for (fiscal year) 2016 that just passed in the U.S. Senate.

He says it cuts important programs for children and seniors and also doesn’t set aside enough money to fix the country’s roads, highways and bridges.

He says Europe is setting aside 5 percent of it’s GDP for it’s infrastructure, while the U.S. does less than 2 percent.

Merkley spoke on the Senate Floor for about 20 minutes before the vote. Republicans are proposing a plan to better balance the federal budget.
