American Killed in Afghan Guest House Attack Identified

iStock/Thinkstock(KABUL, Afghanistan) — U.S. officials have identified the American, who died during a Taliban attack on a guest house in Afghanistan’s capital earlier this week.

Paula Kantor, a North Carolina native, was killed when militant gunmen stormed the building where she lived on Wednesday.  In all, 14 people were killed, including the two gunmen.

According to the Afghanistan Analysts Network, Kantor was a “dedicated researcher” who was “always focused on helping the poorest and most vulnerable.”

The organization said she was in Kabul to work on a new project “looking at women and wheat-growing in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Ethiopia for the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre.”
