Clackamas, Ore. – Yesterday at about 7:19 PM, a trooper observed a northbound speeding vehicle on I-5 near milepost 277 (northern Marion County near Donald/Aurora Exit).

The trooper stopped the vehicle, a 1998 Gold Mercedes, near milepost 278. As the trooper was approaching the vehicle on foot, the driver sped away. The trooper returned to his vehicle and pursued the vehicle northbound at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The vehicle merged onto I-205 and continued northbound. The vehicle appeared to be having mechanical issues as it was smoking and slowing down, where it suddenly took the Stafford Road exit (milepost 3). The vehicle came to a stop and the driver fled on foot into a thick patch of a blackberry bush.

Also in the vehicle, was another old male identified as 21 year old Devin Lee HOFFMAN, of Tacoma, WA, and a two year old child who was unrestrained in the backseat. HOFFMAN was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. The two year old child was taken to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for evaluation and was later released to responsible family member.
