Bend, Ore. – The Bend Fire Department responded to a reported gas odor at the Colorado Ave. Dam project, at McKay Park.

Upon arrival crews found a 4” gas line that had been broken by excavation. The Fire Department crews called for Cascade Natural Gas, Bend Police and Public Works to assist with scene security, and then notified the community via social media and news outlets.

Crews protected the gas company workers with a charged hoseline, as they worked to install a valve to close the leak. There was a light breeze, variable in speed and direction but predominantly from the southwest.

The Bend Fire Department advised the surrounding community by EPN (reverse 9-1-1, Emergency Phone Notification) that no evacuations were necessary but that people were to avoid the area. The leaking line was successfully shut down by 10 AM.
