Lakeview, Ore. – Today is a continuation of the weekend heat wave of temperatures above normal for this time of year. Thunderstorm activity did produce lightning yesterday, but intensity was lower than predicted. Today, we are still in, a Red Flag Warning for abundant thunderstorm activity till 11 p.m. (2300 hrs.) tonight.
Yesterday, there were 7 new fires in the SCOFMP area (1 at ODF Collier State Park, 2 at Crater Lake National Park, and 4 on the Fremont-Winema National Forest).
Two of the 4 wildfires in the Fremont-Winema National Forest were in the Gearhart Mountain Wilderness Area. The Sprague fire is 0.15 acres and Dairy Creek fire is 0.3 acres. The 2 wildfires in Crater Lake National Park were the Little Lightning Creek and Marten fires both at 0.1 acres. All fires from June 26th and 27th were caught and contained.
