Stayton Woman Dies In Yamhill County Crash

Amity, Ore. – Yesterday at about 1:18PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle crash on HWY 153 (Amity-Hopewell Highway). Upon arrival on scene, troopers discovered two vehicles with extensive damage and three patients.

According to Lieutenant Doug Shugart, preliminary information indicates a 1999 Subaru Legacy, operated by 74 year old Arlie D ELLIS of Stayton was traveling southbound on HWY 153 when it crossed the center line. The Subaru collided head-on with a 2015 Toyota Prius, operated by 58 year old Richard J MAFIT, of Salem.

MAFIT’s passenger, 75 year old Marion E MAFIT of Stayton was pronounced deceased upon emergency crews arriving. Richard MAFIT and ELLIS were transported to a local hospital for serious injuries.

The highway was closed for about three hours while the investigation was conducted.
