Fire Destroyed Garage In Deschutes River Woods

Bend, Ore. – Last night around 6 p.m., fire crews found the garage/shop fully on fire, and fire in adjacent Ponderosa trees.

The home was not damaged. Mr. Slater was the only one at the residence at the time of the fire. There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

The Bend Fire Department would like to remind everyone to follow sound defensible space practices, and keep combustible materials and vegetation at a minimum around structures and near property lines.

Due to the intensity of this fire it spread to nearby trees, however since the property was well maintained it did not spread along the ground and firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the main residence and neighboring properties. More information about defensible space can be found at www.bendoregon.gov-fire.
