Prineville, Ore. – Yesterday at approximately 7:55 am, members of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an accident.
Crook County Sheriff’s officials say the caller did not give very many details as to what occurred, but did state that a 14 year old male had been struck by a tree while cutting firewood. As the investigation developed, members of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jefferson County Fire Department, learned that the 14-year-old male subject, who lives in Madras, was cutting firewood with his family on Forest Road 27, approximately 20 northeast of Prineville.
One of the family members fell a tree and hit the 14-year-old male. The 14-year-old male was transported by private vehicle into Jefferson County, where they had contact with police and fire personnel.
The Jefferson County Fire Department attempted life saving measures, but were unsuccessful. The 14-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.
