Salem, Ore. – The Speaker of the House calls the 2015 Session a success with “major wins” for working families and women.

The Oregon House of Representatives adjourned “sine die” today, five days before the July 11 constitutional deadline for adjournment.
From The Speaker of the House:
The work of the 2015 Legislature focused on creating real and lasting opportunity for all Oregon families by leveling the playing field and breaking down barriers that stand in the way for too many Oregonians.

“This session will be remembered as the year we put opportunity for working families first,” said House Speaker Tina Kotek (D – North/NE Portland). “We made education a top priority because every Oregonian deserves a fair chance to succeed. We focused on leveling the playing field because too many women and working families have been left behind by the economic recovery. Together, the legislature made progress that will benefit families in every corner of Oregon.”

From House Republicans: Gavel Falls On Most Partisan Session In Recent History

After one of the most contentious and partisan legislative sessions in recent history, House Republicans today joined their colleagues in closing out the 2015 Legislative Session. Facing overwhelming odds as the minority party, House Republicans united together to block a gas tax increase and fight for Oregon families and employers, local school districts, struggling rural communities, and more transparency and oversight in government.

“Despite facing a partisan majority party fueled by powerful special interest groups, House Republicans firmly stood up to Democrats and said ‘no’ to a hidden gas tax increase, costly government mandates on families and employers, and favors for campaign donors,” said House Republican Leader Mike McLane (R-Powell Butte). “House Republicans brought forward legislation to bring tax relief to working families, support local employers and small businesses, strengthen Oregon’s ethics laws, and provide critical services to Oregonians. It’s a shame that Democrats prioritized donor paybacks over the needs of our state and constituents.”
