Russell Township Fire Department(NOVELTY, Ohio) — A dozen dogs were having a “ruff” time dealing with floodwaters before the local fire department stepped in.
Three employees and 12 dogs were rescued from the flooded Copaw Cabana Kennel in Novelty, Ohio, Tuesday after a raging storm, an official told ABC News Wednesday.
“We got 2-3 inches of rain in only 45 minutes,” Russell Township Fire Department Fire Chief John Frazier said.
“We worked with the Hillcrest Technical Rescue Team and were able to get everyone into boats,” he added.
The firefighters waded through a couple of feet of water and found dry land in a fenced-in area on a different part of the property.
“The dogs were surprisingly mellow through it all,” Frazier said.
The employees called the dog’s owners to pick them up and Frazier said the whole rescue only took an hour and a half after the 4 p.m. call for help came in.
“Everybody’s safe and there were zero injuries to human or dog,” he said. “It’s a great tale to tell.”
The Copaw Cabana Kennel did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.
