Bend Council Meets Today, But No Decision On Gas Tax

Bend, Ore. – The Bend City Council held a special meeting today to talk about a transportation package and a possible gas tax request for voters to consider.

They are talking about either a 5 cent or 10 cent local tax, on either the November or March ballot.

At one point Councilor Barb Campbell moved to put a 10 cent per gallon fuel tax on the November ballot with a resolution to be prepared. Councilor Nathan Boddie seconded the motion. Failed, 4-3. Jim Clinton, Nathan Boddie and Barb Cambpell supported.

Councilor Campbell moved to put a fuel tax on the March ballot with a resolution to be prepared. No second, more discussion.

In the last portion of the meeting, Councilor Casey Roats moved to have a subcommittee of Council work with Bend 2030 prior to Wednesday night. Councilor Doug Knight seconded the motion. Victor Chudowsky, Doug Knight, Casey Roats and Sally Russell supported the motion.

Councilor Chudowsky asked for two options, one without a fuel tax and one with.

Knight, Roats and Campbell would work with Bend 2030 tomorrow.
