(NEW YORK) — Jordan Spieth’s reign as the world’s number one golfer lasted just one tournament.
Spieth, the 22-year-old phenom who won this year’s Masters and U.S. Open, claimed the top spot in the world rankings on the back of those major victories and a top-10 finish at the British Open last month. The Official World Golf Rankings are based on a two-year rolling average including results in each tournament a golfer appears.
Coming into the Barclay’s Pro-Am this weekend, Spieth held a slight edge over McIlroy, but needed to finish in the top 60 to maintain that lead. Instead, Spieth shot a 177 in two rounds, missed the cut and lost his claim to the top spot.
