Prineville, Ore. – Facebook has agreed to build a third data center in Prineville. The “footprint” for the new data center is 487,700 square feet, and will be the largest one yet.

Currently, Facebook’s Prineville data centers employ 147 people – most live in Crook County.

Last week Crook County Commissioners and the City of Prineville put together an agreement that gives the social media giant tax incentives to build the new facility. Under the deal, Facebook must add another 10 full-time jobs. And those positions must pay at least 150 percent of the average county wage.

Here’s a portion of a comment made on Facebook’s page about the new project.

“We’re happy to announce that we’ll be constructing our third data center building in Prineville, which will represent an additional capital investment in excess of $200 million.” – Ken Patchett, Director of Data Center Operations, West Region.

Patchett also said: “Five years ago, Facebook broke ground on its first wholly owned data center in Prineville. We’re proud to be a part of this wonderful Crook County community, and to have built one of the most energy efficient and sustainable data centers in the world here. It has served as a prototype for our four subsequent data centers in Forest City, Lulea, Altoona and, soon, Fort Worth.”
