Bend, Ore. – Today at 4 p.m. city leaders and others gathered to celebrate the completion of the large Reed Market Road improvement project.
Sally Russell, Bend City Councilor spoke to KBNW news: “This is an old county road that’s been here forever and now the city has spent years and many dollars to make a real east-west route, and we’re going to be driving it today!”
Originally, Reed Market Road was scheduled to open in November. At an estimated cost of $18.3 million, Reed Market Road is easily the largest and most complex project in the voter-approved G.O. (general obligation) Bond construction program. The entire corridor from 3rd Street to 27th Street was rebuilt and upgraded to two travel lanes and a continuous center turn lane, shoulder/bike lanes and sidewalks separated by a landscaped stormwater swale.
Major intersections, including 15th Street and the Burlington Northern railroad crossing, were improved for better traffic flow. Additionally, the American Lane Bridge over the canal that connects Reed Market Road with the American Lane industrial area was rebuilt west of its previous location to provide more separation from the railroad tracks.
