COPA Begins Work On New Facility in Bend

Bend, Ore. – Central Oregon Pediatric Associates announced the creation of Central Oregon’s first Pediatric Center of Excellence.  Work starts this week on the 16,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Northwest Crossing, which will be home to COPA’s 21 pediatric providers, as well as a myriad of visiting specialists.

The COPA Pediatric Center of Excellence is the culmination of the vision of COPA’s co-founder, Mary Brown, MD, FAAP.  Long standing dedication to the families of this region has lead to the creation of the Pediatric Center of Excellence, which is single-mindedly focused on children’s health care and wellbeing in Central Oregon. The Pediatric Center recognizes excellence at multiple levels — including Board Certified pediatric doctors, visiting children’s specialists, pediatric nurse practitioners, pediatric trained nurses, care coordination teams, pediatric psychologists, technology and an unrivaled commitment for the care of children.

“We have always felt that the parents of Central Oregon families deserve the absolute best care for their children,” said Mary Brown, M.D., FAAP COPA co-founder and chairperson of the American Academy of Pediatrics, for the Western United States. “Childhood is the most important time in the physical development of an individual and a child’s health care needs are quite simply different and unique in comparison to those of an adult.  Every parent who enters our facility will know that their child is receiving specialized attention that reflects our commitment and dedication to the highest standard of patient care.”

“Construction starts this week,” said Wade Miller, MBA, CEO of COPA.  “Patients will have access to leading-edge technology and clinical expertise from board certified pediatricians with advanced training as well as access to pediatric specialists, child psychologists and other child specific health resources in the new location starting in January.  Once the Pediatric Center of Excellence is open, we will be closing our existing smaller Westside office on NW Monterey Pines,” said Miller.

The COPA Pediatric Center of Excellence will augment COPA’s Eastside Clinic and also continue to provide access to medical specialists from Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at OHSU and Providence Medical Center who schedule regular clinic times at COPA’s Pediatric Center of Excellence.  Pediatric specialists will treat their patients at the clinic in Northwest Crossing as well as host educational seminars in a broad range of specializations including; cardiology, physical and behavioral developmental conditions, endocrinology, eating disorders, gastroenterology, hepatology, nephrology, neurology, nutrition, surgery, pulmonology, rheumatology and urology, with additional specialties anticipated in the near future.

“The creation of a Pediatric Center of Excellence allows us to focus on pioneering innovation and leading-edge research to develop state-of-the-art best practices,” said Dr. Chunn, MD, FAAP, COPA co-founder.  “We are committed to continuing to work with high-quality and respected pediatric specialty partners to deliver coordinated care close to home.  Perhaps most importantly we know that wellness begins at home and the Pediatric Center of Excellence will allow us to promote and support community health and wellness educational opportunities.”
