(NEW YORK) — On Wednesday’s episode of Empire, Jamal continued his success streak after nabbing the Pepsi deal last week, collaborating with his favorite pop singer, Skye Summers, played by Alicia Keys. But when Jamal and Lucious created a song for Skye that was pop, she was disappointed. Jamal noticed this and said the two could get in the studio without Lucious to create a more authentic sound.
In the studio, Skye sang a heartfelt tune for him and told him how much she respected the fact that he’d shaped his own career. Jamal encouraged her to do the same after hearing an unreleased demo that the label had tried to hide from her fans.
Later, when the two performed their own song, “Powerful,” they kissed. Huh? Isn’t Jamal…gay?
Across town, Cookie and her sister Candace headed to Philadelphia to find their older sister Carol, who had gone missing, leaving the kids behind. When they couldn’t find her, Cookie enlisted the help of an old, mysterious friend, Pepper. Eventually, they located Carol, but she was completely strung out. After Candace agreed to watch her kids, Carole decided to go with Cookie to New York. But Cookie later told Carole that she must get clean if she wanted to stay in the city.
After Anika oddly drove off with Hakeem’s new girlfriend, Laura, on last week’s episode, we found out nothing bad happened to her because Laura was in rehearsals with ‘Keem. But it was clear Anika wasn’t stable and, after getting advice from Andre’s wife Rhonda, she crashed Hakeem’s party and confronted Laura. When she couldn’t take Anika’s insults any longer, she left. Hakeem then confronted Anika, telling her, “You’ll never be a Lyon.” Ouch!
The next episode of Empire airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern.
