“Bend Thanksgiving Classic” Run Modified Due To Snow

Bend, Ore. –  The Ninth Annual Bend Thanksgiving Classic will be modified this year due to the recent storm that brought snow and icy conditions to Central Oregon on Tuesday.  Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend is scheduled to host the Bend Thanksgiving Classic on Thanksgiving morning in the Old Mill District, which benefits the Girls on the Run program.

Due to yesterday’s snowfall and the continuing freezing temperatures, the event will be modified. The safety of participants, volunteers, and staff is of the utmost importance, thus the 5k and 10k race will not be hosted on Thanksgiving morning.  Derek Beauvais, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend commented, “It’s unfortunate that mother-nature has thrown a snowball at us, but the safety of everyone involved is our highest priority.  We will still host a celebration and folks are encouraged to go snowshoeing around the Deschutes River Trail and join us for hot refreshments and pie afterwards.”

The Bend Thanksgiving Classic will now be a warm indoor celebration offering coffee, hot chocolate, cookies and pie. The indoor celebration will be held at the White House, directly behind the Les Schwab Amphitheatre at 344 SW Shevlin Hixon Drive from 9:00-11:00am on Thursday, November 26th.
All are welcome to join in celebration of the Girls on the Run program.  For those who have not yet registered but would like to support Girls on the Run, there will be a suggested $10 donation.
Folks are invited to bring snowshoes or cross-country skis to get outside and enjoy a beautiful morning in the Old Mill District.
