There are more than three million women in this country who have survived breast cancer, and now there is a comprehensive plan for what to do once treatment stops and life goes on.

Groundbreaking new care guidelines for breast cancer survivors from the American Cancer Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology take a holistic approach to treating a woman, not just a body part.

The survivor care guidelines focus on everything, including body image, depression, nutrition, heart issues, bone issues, menopausal symptoms and sexual function. It’s a manual for primary care doctors who take over care after the oncologist is finished.

As we’ve gotten more successful at treating breast cancer, this new focus on wellness in survivors is welcomed news.
