Bend Offers Tips & Tools to Save Water, Energy

Bend, Ore. – The City of Bend has released some new information to help residents conserve water and energy this winter.  In collaboration with the Bend Energy Challenge, the City is offering several tools to make the job easier.

Indoor Water Conservation Kits
Save water, energy and money with an indoor water conservation kit from the City of Bend’s WaterWise Program.  Each kit includes a high efficiency shower head, shower timer, dual spray kitchen faucet aerator, two bath faucet aerators, plumbers tape, toilet leak dye tabs and instructions on how to put these devices to work for you.

Approximately 40 percent of residential water use occurs indoors and much of that water is heated.  Installing high efficiency plumbing devices like those included in the free indoor water conservation kit will reduce the amount of water and energy you use indoors.  Bend water customers can visit www.waterwisetips.org or to call 541-317-3000 to request a free indoor water conservation kit.

Home Water Works Calculator
The Alliance for Water Efficiency’s Home Water Works Calculator is a great way to see how Bend water customers stack up to similar homes within our region.  The calculator will provide rough estimates of indoor water use, outdoor water use and how much water is cold versus hot.  The Calculator will also estimate the total carbon footprint for total water use.  The Home Water Works Calculator can be found at www.waterwisetips.org.  Best of all, it’s free.

Bend Energy Challenge
Created to help everyone in Bend save energy and make their homes healthier and more comfortable, the Bend Energy Challenge also enables our community to enter a nationwide energy-saving competition with a $5 million prize. The money would fund projects to help our community save energy and embrace long-term livability. The Energy Challenge is a collaborative effort of local and state government, the energy utilities that serve our community, local schools, businesses and nonprofits, and statewide energy organizations.  The energy reduction competition measures electricity and natural gas use among renters, homeowners and government buildings in 2015 and 2016.   For more information, visit www.bendenergychallenge.org.

For additional information and more ways to save, contact the City of Bend WaterWise Program at conservation@bendoregon.gov, 541-317-3000, or visit www.waterwisetips.org.
