Human Remains Found in Deschutes River

Bend, Ore. – A death investigation is underway by local police after human remains were found in the Deschutes River near Newport Bridge in Bend Thursday. Bend Police Lieutenant Clint Burleigh confirmed the body is a white male adult.   

“There are further steps to go through for a positive identification, to include an autopsy scheduled over the weekend at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office,” he stated.  “We will not have any further information on this case until early next week.”

Bend Police responded about 3:30 pm Thursday to 75 NW Newport to investigate what witnesses reported human remains in the river. Bend Police Department, Deschutes County Sheriff Search and Rescue along with Bend Fire and Rescue assisted in removing the body from the river Thursday night.
