Rodeo To Raise Funds For 4-H And FFA Kids

Madras, Ore. – The first Saturday in May since 2011, Jefferson County enters a rodeo state of mind. That’s when dozens of volunteers come together to host Central Oregon’s largest ranch rodeo and celebrate the life of the late Tom Green. The mission of the Tom Green Memorial Ranch Rodeo is to continue the efforts of Green, who was Madras cattleman dedicated to supporting youth in agriculture. Since its inception four years ago, the rodeo has raised and donated $30,000 to bump fair auction animal sale prices and cover stall rental fees for all Jefferson County 4-H and FFA kids.

Green passed away July 28, 2011 after an accident in a feedlot in Madras, Ore. Green’s dream was to be a successful cattlemen. He accomplished this with a determination that is rarely seen. His passion and service to his community was a testament to his determination, fortitude and conviction.

“We honor my Dad’s memory by organizing a rodeo that celebrates his love for saddle bronc and ranch events, while giving back to the programs he supported,” said Tony Green. 100% of the net proceeds of the rodeo will benefit Jefferson County 4-H and FFA programs through the Tom Green Memorial Youth Livestock Fund. 4-H and FFA are national organizations, with a focus on agriculture, preparing young people to make a positive difference in their communities.

The Saturday, May 7 event kicks off at 6 p.m. and includes ranch bronc riding, muley team roping, team branding, team trailer loading and a cowboy rescue race.

Rodeo admission is $10 for ages 13 and up and free for children twelve and under. Rodeo-goers can purchase tickets at the event at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds at 430 SW Fairgrounds Rd, Madras, Oregon.
