“Otter Space” Journey Nearly Completed

Bend, Ore. – Moving day is on the horizon for two of the High Desert Museum’s most popular residents.

The Autzen Otter Exhibit will reopen to the public May 21.

The exhibit has been closed for renovations since the fall.

The museum’s two otters, Brook and Rogue, spent the winter in an enclosure on the museum grounds lacking many of the amenities to which they have been accustomed.

The otter’s new enclosure has been improved including water pumps, filters, and other equipment used to maintain a healthy environment for the otters.

A glass enclosure wall has also been added to improve the visitor’s viewing experience.

The cost of the renovations was $800,00, which included a $250,000 grant from the Oregon Business Development Department, as well as gifts from charitable foundations and individual donors.
