Bend Councilors Appoint New Municipal Court Judge

Bend, Ore. – Bend City Councilors approved the appointment of Gwen M. Moore, J.D., to the position of Municipal Court Judge. Moore is currently a partner with Johnson, Phillips & Moore, LLP, a local family law and mediation practice. Moore is a former prosecutor who has experience handling everything from traffic and ordinance violations to misdemeanors and felonies.

Moore earned her law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2004. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in Psychology. She is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Bend.

Moore said she will work to ensure that the Municipal Court upholds citizens’ rights while preserving public safety and quality of life for this community that she cares so much about.

“Many times the only interaction people have with our City government is through Municipal Court. I will make it a priority to treat every person who comes before the court fairly and with respect while also being aware that the matter before the court could have – or did – result in a decrease of quality life or injury to another community member,” said Moore.

The Municipal Judge is a charter position appointed by the City Council. The only other position appointed by Council is the City Manager.

A subcommittee of Councilors – Sally Russell, Barbara Campbell and Nathan Boddie – interviewed five candidates and unanimously recommended Moore to a two-year term as Municipal Judge.

The public is invited to join the Bend City Council in welcoming Moore to the position of Municipal Court Judge at an oath of office ceremony scheduled for noon on Tuesday, May 31 at the Municipal Court, 555 NE 15th Street.
