Bend, Ore. – Beginning next Tuesday, crews from Knife River Corporation, in a contract with the Oregon Department of Transportation, will widen and add a median barrier to U.S. Highway 97 between Romaine Village Way and Lava Butte, south of Bend.
Shoulder widening and the installation of a median barrier will take place during the day.
Motorists are expected to experience minimal delays through the work zone.
Paving will be performed at night starting in August with one lane of traffic in each direction.
The $6 million project is expected to be completed by the end of October, and officials note the median barrier will greatly reduce serious cross-over crashes.
