OSP Wants Driver To Be Prepared Over Holiday Weekend

Deschutes County, Ore. – The Oregon State Police is asking Oregonians traveling for the Memorial Day weekend to be prepared for their trip.

Memorial Day weekend has historically been a dangerous holiday weekend for travelers as the numbers of serious injury and fatal crashes increase during this time.

According to AAA Oregon/Idaho, “AAA projects more than 38 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. That’s the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record and the most since 2005.”

OSP will be increasing patrols on state highways to target driving behaviors that lead to serious injury crashes and fatal crashes.

Those behaviors include speed, occupant safety, lane usage, impaired driving and distracted driving.

OSP is urging motorists to prepare for their travels and visit TripCheck for road status/traveler information.

Motorists should also expect more traffic on state highways and take additional time to reach their destination.

OSP wants all Oregonians and visitors to have safe travels while enjoying this holiday weekend.
